Tax Moving UK to Ireland

A friend of mine recently moved from the UK to Ireland in the second half of last year.

In the UK, she was a PAYE employee, and In Ireland was self employed so she's now filling out a tax return for her earnings in 2018. We filled out the form and as far as we can tell her figures are accurate, but the amount of tax it's saying she owes seems too high to me.

The reason I think it's too high is because the total amount she'd be paying, when you add what she's already paid in the UK to the amount they say she owes in Ireland is significantly higher than how much tax she'd pay if she earned the same amount in a year entirely in the UK or Ireland.

Am I correct in assuming that her take home pay should ultimately sit somewhere between the figures she'd be getting had she earned that amount entirely in the UK, and the amount she'd be getting if she earned it entirely in Ireland?

I'm willing to bet you didn't claim for relief for taxes already paid.

Also make sure you've checked the box so you are only paying prsi in one jurisdiction.

Also if non resident for the year make sure you are claiming a portion of Irish tax credits.

Thanks I'll makes sure to double check that.

Am I right in my general belief that the total tax payable should be somewhere between those two figures?

    In general yes.
