Norn Iron Tayto Crisps - Just Not The Same

So I'm up in the North for the weekend and up very late vegging in front of the TV at a relative's house. He and his wife went to bed over an hour ago, and I should do likewise in a few mins.

I'm munching on a pack of Norn Iron Tayto salt & vinegar crisps, and they are rather nice, but the NI Tayto cheese & onion is vile compared to the original - and IMO - the best.

Why does the North even have a separate Tayto crisps? Does that mean it will eventually have its own Tayto Park?

And this has got me to pose the Big Question...

...since Tayto are the finest cheese and onion crisps on the planet, why haven't they gone global? Is is really fair to deprive the Taiwanese or the Malawians of the glorious taste of Tayto?

They taste different because there's no need for salt up there.

Two completely different companies. The NI one was licenced in the 50s.

    Bit like the Bulmers situation.

Free Staytos are an overrated crisp. Some of the smaller Irish producers have far nicer ones.

It's because their crop of potatoes are not blessed with holy water by a catholic priest every crop season.

Northern Irish Tayto will not bow down to the demands of crisp eaters South of the border.

If ever there was a valid reason for a hard border its this.

Northern Tayto cheese n onion are far tastier to those found south, no contest.

Id agree. O'Donnells are majestic. Id take a packet of Kings over them too.

On a slightly different note why don't Tayto Park offer smokey bacon or s&v upon exit?

    Alert: Good Friday Agreement violation.

Under the parity of esteem clause, you are not allowed to slag off Norn Iron version of crisps, cider, whiskey etc.

The OP has hereby been reported to Bertie Ahern, who will make you eat Norn Iron Tayto until you apologise.

Nordies are famously dour and humourless people. Perhaps the lack of quality crisps has a small part to play in that?

You should try the Spring Onion flavour, they are savage

Manhattan cheese & onion are amazing if you can find them.
    The crystal meth of crisps.

Remember the Spring Onion flavour from the non-Nordie Tayto? I'd say they must have been out in the late 80s.

I am not sure if officially the recipe is different, but the southern crisps seem much thinner and have a weaker taste to me compared to the northern version, which is clearly far better.

Strong stout crisps, far superior to weaker traitor crisps.
