Came across this car today. Its local to me. I dont know the seller but i think maybe hes in trade. Hes selling it without paying the vrt. He has full English log book apparently. If somebody was to buy this car would the buyer have any issue vrt'ing it?

The Nct crowd will look for ferry tickets to prove when it came into the country and a receipt for the sale. I can’t see the seller giving you those. Other than that once you have all the relevant documents you should be fine bringing it for VRT.

I figured thered be some kind of issue alright. On DD there's a lot of similiar ads. It got me wondering. That Superb is up on the MOT website. She looks good. But in fairness how could you posdibly sell that yr/model of car for 6k? Even with vrt of 3k its very cheap. Cheap for a reason most likely

That was my first thought to be honest, but having brought in a good few cars from the UK over the last few years bargains do pop up from time to time. In this case a good background check would be in order if thinking of buying, it wouldn’t have had many MOTs so checking the mileage would be a concern, if it was wound back before the MOT the test will only record the mileage at the time of test. Service history would be worth looking at and maybe even getting someone to plug into it with Vagcom to read the true mileage.. the lads clocking them can change the reading on the dash but most can’t alter the ECU’s memory.

My gut feeling is that there is no service history and the mileage may not be correct..

Her last MOT was Oct 2018 and she had 275999kms. Big difference to what is on the ad! Chancers everywhere. Make ya sick

And just as I thought, have a look for MOT history check and out in the reg ;)

    https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk

***** had over 275,000 miles in Oct 18!!

The lad must have driven it home in reverse :)

They’re everywhere. If it looks too good to be true then it probably is.. Ne worth ringing him for the crack anyway and waste his time. From the looks of it that car has been clocked more than once.. my bet is the car has around 250k miles and was once a taxi.

Snap ha ha. Thats a fact. We should have a similiar facility here with our NCT. In fairness that MOT site in the Uk is brilliant

I don’t understand why the NCT don’t open up their database it would sort a lot of problems.

Sad thing is, someone will buy that thinking they got a bargain and end up with a serious headache.

Would be worth putting up a post to let others know and include the reg in the title, that way if anyone googles it they will find it.

Oh and I was right about the taxi bit too :)

I contacted Minister Shane Ross on this matter a couple of years ago. He replied saying it was a data protection issue . What a load of ****

We should have a similiar facility here with our NCT.

THe new NCT certificate lists the dates and mileage of the last three NCT certs on it. While not as good as the MOT online in UK it is a help - ask the ower tio produce the NCT cert.

Of course that's providing the NCT cert is genuine...many fakes out there

Or just go on to NCT.ie and put in the reg, I wouldn't trust any paper NCT documents in this country. Tens of thousands of genuine blank certificates have been stolen, never ever trust them.

Googled the reg. They publish a list of private hire vehicle regs every so often. It’s a little harder to find but it can be done. Comes up in the below document if you search.

He will have no problem selling to the bargain hunter buyers who check nothing before parting with their hard earned cash.

Data Protection my Arse. It would be a fair assumption that the Dept of Transport are only waiting to see how much they can earn by selling the mileage info to the Car Check Companies.
