What company car?

So the time has come again to renew the car and I'm really struggling this time around to pick a model. As this is a company car there are a number of prerequisites
    • It must be diesel
    • It must have 4 doors
    • It must be new
    • Price, less than 60k
From my side I currently have a BMW420d msport and really like it but the new model will be out in a year and I need to have the new car by January. Also I will have the car for 4 years so I don't want to get stuck with an older model car. I have started to look at some cars like the A5 sportback sline (looks quite nice), BMW 520d msport (will be due a facelift but not a new model), A6 sline (a bit bland in my opinion) and Merc GLC/coupe (something different).
    Anything else I should consider?
    Thanks!

What about new 3 series? It looks the business - especially in the M sport plus spec. I would still pick a 5 series though :)

Mercedes e220 amg line, Volvo s/v90 or xc60 d4 would be very comfortable,
Kia stinger diesel a bit left field but might be interesting.

There’s a very good chance this years irish government budget could play havoc with new car prices next January , making them very susceptible to real world CO2 output testing. So it’s going to be impossible to get an exact new car price until after the budget.

60k means a 5 series msport, an e class amg or an a6 s line for me

We have 2014 A6 S Line and a 2014 5 series m sport in the house and my uncle has an e class although it's not an amg it's a lovely car.

It's all personal preference between these 3 but personally I wouldn't be looking anywhere else.

My preference for a car of the current ones would be the new a6, beautiful inside but make sure you see the full technology pack

If your company is paying for it then a top spec Peugeot 508 2.0 litre GT is worth a look. They stand out from the crowded german car park.

If the v90 is under 60k I'd have it all day long.

    Otherwise 5 series

If it is company car do you have a CO2 limit?

    Top spec VW Amarok

    That’ll be over 60k.

Much over? I thought I heard they could be got for not much over 58k but I wouldn't be as clued up as yourself on all things fresh from the showroom floor.

Volvo S90 D4 R-Design would be something different. Not everyone's cup of tea but I like them personally. Comes in just under 60 with some options

S90 with as high a spec/power as you can land in budget.

edit. had a look at the Volvo site, S90 D4 R-Design with metallic comes in just over 57k, so you still have 3k or so for shiny extras.

    Alfa Romeo Guilia?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,360 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

The diesel engine in the Guilia is underwhelming.

Seriously? Haven't had a chance to drive one but a cracking looking motor. Is it all show and no go?

Well it depends if you go for top spec which without top spec I don't know how many toys you'd get. I have one to drive in a few weeks and the price list comes to 67,000

Would the amorak be a much better drive than a hilux? If not then don't go near it as a company car. My dad has a hilux and although it's very capable it's not a nice drive at all, just the sheer size and bulk and dynamics of the thing. Maybe the amorak is set up differently though but if you're talking premium saloons this is a very very left field suggestion

Surely less after vat is reclaimed?

In any case not sure an amarok is the type of car the op is after anyway. I probably wouldn’t be looking past a 5 series or A6 tbh.

Edit: yeah just checked, 52k ex VAT.

You would get a very nice spec new model 320d MSport touring with plenty of toys for €60,000.

I was talking about the engine rather than the car itself. Haven't driven one either but most of the reviews don't praise that engine much. 150bhp from a 2.2 litre diesel engine isn't much these days either. I think it's just stuck in there by Alfa Romeo to satisfy the market.

Could get Alfa Romeo stelvio for that money with 210 hp diesel and four wheel drive.

    Great call

I would at least test drive the stelvio especially as it’s a company car so depreciation not a concern.
Great looking and supposed to drive really well.

Yes, much better. That’s not hard though, the Hilux is barely different from 2005.
