Am I paying too much tax?

I have two jobs, one is 3 days per week and the other is 1 day per week but not every week. So I applied for JSB (casual dockets) and it was granted. Now they've lowered my tax credits which has resulted in me paying €40 a week extra in tax. Surely this can't be right? It's totally negating my net income every week. They've changed me from culmative basis to week one basis. I've no idea what this means.

    Anyone any ideas?

Kinda impossible to give you a correct answer based on the info provided.

Have you split your tax credits between the 2 employments?

Job seekers benefit is taxable, and this can only be done through reduction of your tax credits

I actually split them online this morning. Previously I rang them when I got my second job and they recommended I use them all on my main job.

Main job went from 258 take home to 220 now. The one day a week job is usually €85-90 take home. I'm paying tax on this job too when I get a day. Crazy stuff. I'm paying €60 in tax a week on 4 days work.

    Hi there.

From the information you have provided they are charging you too much tax and if you wait to the end of the year and request a p21 balancing statement you will get the difference back.

W1m1 means that they tax you on the payslip you get and 1/52nd of the tax credits you have allocated to that job each week.

It also means you don't get a refund if you paid much tax one week til the end of the year. Normally you would get it in your next payslip.

Reducing your tax credits by 40 a week is the same as saying the tax credits covering your social welfare is enough to cover 200 a week of earnings whereas you actually have much less social welfare.
