Mibox - wifi quicker than ethernet?

Bought a mibox, great wee device. Connection is flying on wifi, ran speed test and its clocking about 80mbps which is great. Located right next to router. Bought a USB ethernet adapter on Ebay (cheap one, about €5) and its only pulling about 10mbps.... Is it because its a cheap one or is there another reason? Always thought wired would be quicker than WiFi...

I'd say that about €5 worth of Mbps alright

So would I be better off getting a decent adapter on amazon? Do the cheap ones really choke speeds that much?
