Just reading the application form for invalidity pension , it depends on your prsi contributions etc, am just wondering why it asks about any private pension you have. I'm wondering if you have a private pension would it go against you being granted an invalidity pension?

    Better ask Citizen Information.

I will, but as they are a government agency I was looking for information from someone who has been down that road.

Any private pension you have in your own right will not impact on your ability to claim Invalidity Pension.
It is not a means tested payment.

I understand that, I just wanted to know why as it's not means tested ,it asked on the form and the payment per week/month also.

Having helped a friend to apply recently, that puzzled me too, I suspect that the information is being sought for statistical purposes or perhaps it is being sought for reasons connected with notifying Revenue, given that the IP is a taxable benefit.

Thanks,I think the question on existing pension should only apply to people seeking an allowance for a dependent, it's not good enough to say it's for statistics and revenue have pension details of all p a y e people.

I agree. However, if you want to receive the pension without unnecessary delay, it would be prudent to provide the information requested.

But why not also send an email to your favourite TD asking him/her to submit a PQ to Regina Doherty asking why the information is required for a non means tested payment.

I will step on the fast because I have a similar situation, except that I underwent hip joint replacement surgery. I am trying to obtain an IP but my application has been rejected again.

It seems a very difficult payment to get, I presume its because once awarded its permanent in the sense not subject to review ( open to correction)

I've never quite understood why people having been awarded DA and been on it for many years are not moved to invalidity pension, particularly if they have sufficient contributions.

Sorry to hear this, if I may ask are you on disability allowance or considered it 🤔, I assme they are basing their decision on expecting you to make a full recovery 🤔

I was 2 years on IB (end of November 2021) after receiving information from SW I started applying for Invalidity Pension. I did not apply for DA because my partner earns too much according to their criteria. In the meantime, I applied for SWA, I was rejected from reporting on my partner's earnings.

Gosh that is harsh , whilst I understand DA is means tested to include partners income would you not have even got a reduced rate or similar with SWA ,it seems extraordinary your entitled to nothing with long term documented physical challenges.

I just don't know how to advise but certainly I'd be exploring Citizens information, Local TD etc

thank you very much for the kind word. I will be appealing this week. It was here in the group that I found out that it is worth trying and writing to the local TD. an orthopedic specialist wrote me a short letter, i.e. another report, I have contributions, I worked hard and my disease is not my idea for life, it just happened. I feel discriminated against because I know a gentleman who also has two hip prostheses and in his case he had no problems.

Absolutely appeal and be dogged. I've my own illness at an early stage and will be on this journey also in the near future. Take care 😏

Application under review - Invalidity pension

Hi Guys , my application was under review till a week ago in mywelfare.ie , now the page say : No active claims .

Can any body help on it ? I will really appreciate . Thanks

Nothing to be concerned about. After 30 days an application pending, under review dissappears off my welfare. Why I can't explain as its ridiculous & causing additional confusion & stress.

So don't worry it's normal for this to occur

Now is changed again ....Just 2 hours ago in my page of mywelfare.ie was posted the form to apply for " Household Benefits " , that i did not request , so if i cancel the form doesn't effect my request for invalidity pension and disability allowance ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,051 ✭✭✭✭Dempo1

I'm guessing they are asking you to apply for the Household Benefit which suggests your application for IP has been approved. You can't & shouldn't cancel anything. Call them. If you qualify for the HB ,apply

I called the office and because i'm living in my daughter house , they said to cancel the request of HB , is not applicable , otherwise i have to wait 2 extra weeks to go a head with the IP . So hope as you said my application has been approved :) Thank you for your help
