    Hi,
Im looking to make a career change and i'm looking into doing an autocad 2d introductory course. I have a degree in Computer Science from back in the day 😄 Anyone out there know if someone would qualify for many autocad technician jobs with just a city and guilds level 3 qualification. I know 3d and BIM seem to be the way things are going. Anybody have any advice about getting into the Autocad world? Cheers in advance.

You would need a construction related level 7 Degree at least if you want to work on the construction industry. Autocad is just a tool, you still need to know and understand what you are drawing.

Do you work in IT? Why would you like to change it into construction industry? I don't know your motivation but most of the people migrate opposite direction rather than changing computer science for CAD career.
There is much more opportunities in IT, more money and more job security as we could see 10 years ago nearly all construction related jobs were gone within few months of previous recession.
If your degree is not good for current IT market maybe try to up skill or look for junior role unless you are not driven by specific reason I don't know.

Hmmmmmmm.... i appreciate the feedback folks. Sorry for the late reply. Been out of action for a while. Having a rethink about it now to be honest. Probably going to do some form of IT upskilling/post grad now. A lot of them seem to need an honours level 8 degree though and i only have a pass level 7 from '06. Im employed at the moment but not in IT. Any suggestions 😂. Cheers

Some of the bigger companies would be looking for IT staff for PLM work with 3D Modelling etc. SAP, Oracle etc. I would say jobs are limited in this area.

3D modeling for PLM I would say you have to be seriously experienced on field of engineering and 3D drawing. I did some basic training for Solidworks and Catia few years ago and even if I have engineering backgrounds I struggled with few bits of mechanical or materials science.

Not even sure about demand for such skills in Ireland, there is not much prototyping / manufacturing here (much more in UK).

SAP / Oracle are big data's and what they need is data specialists not modelers - which can be possible career path too, why not.

Yes not many jobs. I spent three years on the Visual Enterprise team, material management etc. The idea was to build front end 3d models from big data. Parts would show wear and tear in real time and with AI re-order systems. See videos McLaren IOT etc etc,. Footfall in shopping centres. Companies driving towards visualisations in the engineering world from big data.

Still very hard to get into it and limited jobs. I had to spend time in New Zealand training,. but it's a space big data companies are trying to occupy.
