Is this the new thing? I was buying petrol today in a Circle K garage in an area I wouldn't usually be in and they had had annoying music and annoucements about special offers being piped over the PA system sort of similar to a supermarkets but even more annoying. Is this a new thing as I for one certainly have never heard this in a garage before didn't it would be allowed inan outdoor area either.

Heard it a couple times but whenever I heard it it sounded something like Nin Huguen and the Huguen Notes version that was played in the elevator.

Similar to the advertisement screen which would turn on as soon as you pulled up ... They want you to listen or watch and it's advertising so it's a plus for them.

Is it even legal under planning laws to play music outdoors? I know it's under a canopy this particular garage wasn't that near any houses but could there were neighbouring businesses who could complain surely do they need a licence other than IMRO and/or any sort of planning permission.

Nor have I but Circle K is a Canadian chain that doesn't even have any stations in Britain

It was probably only audible for a couple seconds distance of the speaker. A bit of harmless low-volume background music which a lot of people barely even notice, and you are on about planning permission, legal laws and IMRO licences. Jesus wept.

Or "McCaves" as my mother-in-law keeps calling it.
God but she can be annoying.

And if you look closely, you will see that the symbol used on the 'Miles' campaign by Circle K, it's actually the same logo that Statoil had.

You jump out of your car in the forecourt on a blustery afternoon and shut the door behind you. You feel the chill and look at the glum faces of the others filling their cars and watching the digits twirl. You scan the grey sky beyond. You attempt to recall why you bother with this whole living thing.

Then you hear the music, those cheery pop numbers intended to make it all vibrant.

But they don't. Instead the jangling, thumping, and shrieking intensify the bleakness. The music carves the hollow deeper; it assaults your ears bringing the pointless of it all into undeniable focus. You replace the nozzle and note the pump number. You stride through the automatic doors and past the coffee machines to pass your card to the poor soul manning the register. Then you feel a gratitude. You realise your luck. You get to drive away back to your own life. This unfortunate devil is stuck here, moribund, behind the counter listening to the muzak. All... day... long. ****!
