What are your thoughts on selling heavy store cattle now. Sell at the mart or hold on and hope the factories and Borris give in. I think sell and take what you get

You might as well sell into the factory if that's what you want, where else do you think they'll end up?

No not factory fit cattle. Everyone is feeling pain at the moment from a suckler man to a finisher

Apologies, thought you meant finished stock. Problem is that finisher won't be buying until they get rid of their finished stock.

Sell sell sell. The dung is going to hit the fan shortly with this business no matter what type of stock you have

Yea if I don’t shift them in the next three weeks I will run out grass in late September. Hoping there will be be a resolution before then it might give some stability to the market. But I think this could take a while

I'd imagine the slow down of finished cattle leaving farms at the moment will result in poorer mart prices as no one will be replacing. But, as you say, it can get even worse......

Yea it is the perfect storm to depress cattle prices

I don't think prices will be any better in the next 6 weeks, might be better to cut your losses and keep the remaining cattle out grazing a bit longer.

I think so. Take it on the chin and move on

Have to agree with other posters. Time is right to sell now before things get even worse. Not a good time to be a farmer.

Called into ennis mart yesterday to see the heifer ring...depressing and very few lots unsold.
2 euro a kg got u a great heifer tough time to sell.

I hate to say it but there may be a time in the not too distant future when that will be looked on as not a bad price.

Anyone here in Elphin Wednesday? In years gone by it would have been a great mart for these types of heavy cattle.

I sold a few LMx bullocks in Carnaross last Monday (Bank Holiday) and I thought overall trade was good when you consider where beef prices are.
My cattle were between 24 -26 month old weighing between 640 Kgs and 680 Kgs they made between €1,400 - €1,500 which I was happy enough with, would probably made €100 - €150 more back in 2017.
Seen a nice few CH bullocks around 400 Kgs making in around €1,000 which i thought was a good enough price from them considering in 12 months time you might be lucky to get €1,400.
The things I noticed was quality cattle were selling well with a nice few customers. Plainer cattle were harder to shift and anything over 3 movements it was only the dealers that were interested, similar story with age for weight.

I remember an add on the TV with that quote in it, Sean Boylan was doing the voice over so for that reason every time I hear / read it then it puts me in a positive mood...

Heifers not a great trade in ennis lately. I sold the 4 worst heifers I had in gort last night and they were wild aswell. 05/18 Got 870 for 400kg. Don't think they would have made it in ennis, still had nothing out of them.
