Astra 28.2E No Signal

Folks, I know there’s been tons of questions on this over the years, but here I go anyways.
I’ve no signal on my UK channels via satellite. Here’s what I’ve done :
    1. Took the top off a tree I thought was blocking the signal.
    2. Changed the LNB, in case the old one was bust.
    3. Used my Chess Sat Finder to relocate channels.
    But no success.
But here’s the thing - I disconnected both cables from the LNB, yet my tv tells me I have Signal Intensity 36% and Signal Quality moving around 3-7%. How is this possible when it’s totally disconnected? Equally, when connected and I move the dish from N to S facing, it seems to make no difference to these readings.
    Any help appreciated, cheers.

I think the only thing you have proved is that the signal level indicators on your TV are meaningless.
You have a sat meter - so did you find a satellite signal with it?
If yes then you should be able to tune in something (if you did a blind scan), even if you were pointed at the wrong satellite.
I think you need to take things slowly - use dishpointer.com or a dish pointer app on your phone to ensure you are in the right general direction.
Then maximise the signal on your sat finder.
Then try doing a scan on your satellite receiver.
Remember that even a small tweak on the dish takes a few moments for the signal to sync and be decoded, so work slowly and methodically.

Or you could just get a sat installer to do it for you...

    Thank you.
I’m just trying to eliminate possible issues.
Another thing is that my LNB has two cables entering, one of which seems dead, cos when I use the sat finder with it, I get no power ( ie the needle doesn’t budge and no little light within).
Indeed, why is it a dual LNB? We have a separate sat dish for French tv with just one cable.
    Thanks.

One cable will be dead if it's not connected to a source of power i.e. a tuner in the receiver.

What kind of receiver are you using?

I assume this setup was working already for you, & just failed, rather than it being the first time you've tried to get it up & running.
