Question from a contract worker

Hello. I’ve recently started a contract role (6 months) with a pretty high profile financial institution. I’m fairly certain this isn’t going to be a long term option as several of the team have left/are leaving and the future of the team is up in the air somewhat. I suppose coming in as a contractor might suit the company and me for now, I’m going to be looking for perm roles throughout the contract. I’d imagine they could probably guess this but given the uncertainty surrounding things here, should I be upfront and tell them that? (Should it come up). Were i to get a full time role elsewhere, I have 7 day notice period and as a contractor they can pretty much get rid of me at any stage. Anyway I know that might be a stupid question, but I’d prefer to be straight up and transparent with people. I’m approaching the role with an open mind, will see how it goes but even though it’s early days, it’s take a lot for me to remain beyond the 6 months. I suppose I’m looking for advice on looking for perm jobs while working as a contractor and the best way to go about it. Thanks

If your notice period is 7 days, in the event of getting a job within your 6 month period, give them the 7 days notice. Most companies don't like the idea of their employees having one foot out the door(e.g. looking for a job).

Anecdotally, a former colleague of mine(also a contractor) in a Finance company announced he was looking elsewhere to the team - wanting to be open and transparent, was told by management to finish his shift and not come back. It was their 'policy'.
