Wasps nest or just the time of year?

    Guys,

We've noticed a lot of Wasps around the last few days. Is it the time of year where they start dying off, or is it still too early? They are a bit dopey going which is why I'm thinking that may be a possibility, but it seems early.

We had a nest 5/6 weeks ago that we caught early and got treated, but even then we didn't have as much hassle as now. We've had a look around the garden and haven't found any evidence of a nest.

    Any suggestions?

We're having a kids party at the house on Saturday which has me bothered now. I don't want anyone getting stung.

What do you call a lot of wasps? It's much too early for them to die off but some will have switched from feeding larvae on aphids etc and will be seeking out sugar sources for themselves. We have had a few (2 or 3 at a time) around us while eating in the garden for the past couple of days but it's no big issue.

We've had about 10 in the house so far this morning and I could see more floating about outside when I was looking to see if we had a nest somewhere. But if they are now looking for sugar sources that makes sense as they are trying to get into the kitchen and we've also noticed the most out in the veg garden area, especially the strawberries. We thought that maybe the neighbours had a nest in their shed as it's right beside our veg garden.

It's not foolproof, but it helps if you place bowls, saucers etc of sugar and water, or water and jam away from where you are sitting/entertaining. They apparently go for sugar from now on.

They have their own party then and largely leave you alone! Try to minimise anything sugary left out on the table including drinks etc. Difficult I know with a kids party, but maybe get those cups like the coffee/drinks cups with lids and covers for the cakes. Every little helps!
