Just me and the missus. Not into clubs but don't want to end up in a ghost town or is this a given in September?

Ideally close to a beach and maybe a port/town. Will hire a car for the second week and explore the island.

    Chania great port town

Agioi Apostoli has a few lovely beaches and is only 10mins on public bus from Chania which runs until midnight. Taxis cost about €15.

We've been to that area a few times. So relaxing

You can also get public bus from airport into Chania then bus onto Agioi. Think it costs €8 in total

Thanks guys. Chania it is!. I booked a place between Agioi Apostoli and Markis Tichos. Cant wait now! The whole area looks really nice :)

    Any recommendations on restaurants nearby?

Ended up hiring a small car for the 2 weeks too as it was so cheap.

Chania is full of great restaurants
In my experience thery improve away from the waterfront

Well of the Turk is a favourite of ours at night
To Koutourouki is a great place during the day out of the sun
Barraki has a great platter and has nice outdoor seating

Seriously, take a wander find a place to sit and people watch

Nearly a week gone already and having a ball. Way too much to discuss now but here's a shot of the low evening sun on a remote beach in Paralia. This was the only cloudy day we had.

A car is a must imo. There is so much to see by just getting a few minutes off the beaten track.

    Hi Folks
Jumping on this thread! Just booked flights to Chania next month. Looking for recommendations of places to stay. Chania has been recommended to us but can't find a lot around Chania town so unsure where to go that we could have close access to restaurants and bars - never been to Greece before let alone this area.

Couple in their 'early' 50's - like nice food, a few beers and people watching. We usually hire a car when we travel but don't plan to this time so walking distance would be great - not averse to buses etc. Budget is around 1000 for 9 days. Not keen on high rise apartments/hotel blocks.
    TIA
