Is it a myth that young people care more about the environment than the old?

They're the big consumers of fast fashion, plastic clothing which is of such a low quality that it is seen as being disposable.

Look at the amount of ****e young people leave behind them at festivals.

Drugs usage is going up which has awful environmental consequences.

I'd say most young people couldn't give a toss about the environment tbh, despite what we're told in the media.

Young people don't give a sh1t about the environment, they do however give a sh1t about virtue signalling and social media recognition of said virtue signalling.

When I get a chance, I like to help out the local Tidy Towns. At 35 years of age, I'm seen as the young whipper snapper of the group.

Yes. Or rather, less wealth in previous generations necessitated greater reuse of things. Things were, and are, repaired. 'Waste not, want not', and all its variants, was the philosophical bible of generations.

In terms of values, it's actually a hugely admirable way to live. There is so, so, so much unnecessary waste and packaging today.

There are people of all ages who are environmentally conscious, including those who quietly recycle and don't need to pollute twitter with humblebrag.

Young people do tend to give more of a sh1t. More conscientious and thinking of future generations.

While you see a couple of young people virtue signalling on social media, the rest of us are quietly doing our recycling and bit for the environment.

I'd say they are much heavier users of social media than older people....I don't see our local community groups and tidy towns plastering themselves all over Instagram and Facebook and their average age is probably in the 50s.Maybe because they are actually doing the work, so don't have time to be using social media?

On a practical level I would say young people just don't have that much else to think about. And by that I mean your average 30/40/50/60 year old is usually running around after work, kids, aging parents, trying to maintain a house, all the boring life stuff.Maybe people in their teens/20s/30s (overlap), just aren't doing that and have more free time to spend thinking about the environment.

As someone else said, older people are often making changes in their lives quietly anyway, just not saying it much.

Yes, it's a myth. Very easy to 'care' about the environment when you aren't the one who will be hit with the cost of carbon taxes etc!

Are they taking less flights and more ferries? Talk to me when they are.

It's definitely a myth. They are so self absorbed that they can't see their hypocrisy. Have any generation ever travelled as much as the current under 35s? Have they ever consumed so much stuff and replaced perfectly good stuff with other newer tech?

I think the best example of this sort of waste is with Go Pro type cameras. The amount of people that replace them with a newer model within 2 years is crazy. All because it has slightly better video quality or comes in a smaller case. Its exactly the same with mobile phones. Perfectly good stuff being thrown away for no other reason than that there is a newer version out. I know quite a few people in their 50s with old style dumb phones. I don't know a single millennial that would use a phone that old.

most of the kids in my local school who took a day off to protest last year had just returned from a school trip abroad and most will no doubt fly another couple of times in the year.
Only people who don't fly and don't eat out of season food can really say they are dedicated to saving the environment. Most of us do our bit but in reality it's not enough.

The average person understands very well that everyone else has to reduce their carbon consumption.

They do in their knob give crap about it. Look at the state of any venue where they attend when they leave. A few of the usual knobhead posers getting their heads on to the tv whining about the environment while wating for Mummy to collect them in her 4× 4

I honestly hate the moral stance of some people around my age. Just please stop going on and on and on about recycling and OMG DAVID ATTNEBOROUGH IS A NATIONAL TREASSSURRRE. Between hoovering down lines up their noses and taking over 10-15 flights a year. Go you. You did nothing and are proud about it. I'm sure their pathetic attempts at recycling are going well, oh wait what's that? too much effort to clean that tub of soup out is it? Ah well, what no one knows will cause no harm. Not like it's on social media or something.

That said now I do think younger people are good at reusing clothes if the vintage thing is anything to go by and the big upcycling thing happening these days. Only idiots buys a new phone every year and justifies it by saying things like ooh facial recognition. It has a button for this. Yeah and? Do me or anyone need to see your next G&T or shameless gym selfie in better quality. No.

There is a theory that more CO2 is good for the environment in that it has greened the planet.
More CO2 more photosynthesis more plant life.
