Void / double height ceiling pros and cons

Hi everyone, looking for some information on the pros and cons of including a large void upstairs, just above our main entrance. Its main effect would be allowing for a double height ceiling, to give light to the hallway and and be a nice feature.

I have seen a few pictures online and while they look good I am wondering.. are they safe for young kids, practical in terms of heat loss and noise and do they look the part if they do not have a glass surround.

I hope my description makes sense, any help appreciated!

Not sure why they wouldn't be safe.... They should obviously be constructed to building regs.

Double heights are a great feature in a house, but the scale should be there to suit, enough to be able to appreciate the space.

Yes totally would be built to safety standards etc but I know a fair few kids who would definitely try to scale them, great craic throwing a ball over them etc so that’s putting me off - basically the possibility of child falling over the side. Dramatic I know but possible? It’s in a main living area that would have heavy use. Kids can’t be supervised all the time etc.

Also the noise travelling from downstairs up could be an issue I’d imagine. I love the idea of one but I have no experience of them, have never seen one in place and don’t know anyone to ask about them, hence I’m asking here.
