HKC dialler question

We have our HKC Alarm system hooked up to one of the monitoring services via a dialler/telephone line. If we were to change telephone numbers, would informing the monitoring company be sufficient or does any changes need to be made from the alarm side too?

Also anyway to generate a test dial out to the alarm company without actually causing a false alarm ? since we don't have the installer code.

    Thanks!

Your alarm uses your telephone line to dial out to the monitoring station, whatever number your line is, is irrelevant.
So yes you can change your telephone number and that will have no technical effect.
Assuming of course you are staying with the same provider.

Do you know if the duress alarm function is set up on your system?

If not then the easiest way of setting it off is pressing a Panic button or the * and # keys together on your keypad but please ring the monitoring station first

If none of the above are applicable, then set the system, leave the house, let the system fully set.
Then come back in through a back door and just let the system activate for a good while, please be mindful that when these things are making a racket time goes by very slowly.

Thanks very much for the info, I was think the source telephone number was the identifier. But looks like that is not the case, out of curiosity what is the identifier ? is there an account number programmed on the unit itself.

We do have a panic button, but I suppose letting the alarm go off for 3 to 4 minutes will be the better option.

Yes the communicator has its own unique identity when it signals the monitoring station.

If you press a panic button, an activation period of 20 seconds is usually plenty of time.

Can I ask why you are thinking of changing your number? Are you moving to a different provider or something - that could impact it as you could end up with a VOIP number (if you have BB) which might not work with your alarm

oh didn't know there would be any issues with VOIP connections. We were thinking of moving to Magnet Telecoms, who provide their telephone services via voip. But I was told it should act just like any telephone line, including emergency calls and such. Might hold off on the plan if that is going to be the case.

Check with the alarm provider first, few options like changing to GPRS if not possible, even the modem may be able to be configured to act like a normal phone (don't know Magnets systems)

    Hi all,

Related question here, have been getting alot of of dialer line fault notifications of late, and the key panel is beeping regularly at all hours of the day and night. Does anyone know what causes this? Its a monitored alarm, would this cause issues for monitoring?

    Thanks.

    Hi all,

Any thoughts on this? Still happening, is the issue with the line provider or is it something that can be resolved by installer?

    Thanks.

It is more than likely your telephone line is the issue, might be best to report this to your alarm company and make them aware of same as it would certainly cause issues with communications to the monitoring station in the event of an activation.
