Composite door

    Recently bought this
    Composite door but if it closes on you by mistake there
    Is no way (handle) to open the door or if you leave the key in the lock on the inside of the door you can’t open the door from the outside with a key. Would this be right or am I missing something? It has a long steel like bar down the front of the door but no handle

    All those types of locks are the same if there is a key already in the lock

    When ordering you can select the lock type , we just got a composite with an internal thumb turn and it doesn't lock behind you .

    It is actually very easy to change the lock type yourself look it up online you. It's just a few measurements and an online locksmith will sort you out

    The door is made to "auto lock" when closed (latch bolt).
    You can change barrel and bolt to only lock when you turn key (deadbolt).
    You should also consider changing from key inside to a turner knob so it's quick to get out in a hurry.

    Actually you can get "Double Euro Cylinders" that allow the lock to be still opened even if the key is left on the inside or vice versa.

    As others have mentioned a Euro Cylinder with a thumbscrew inside is another option. These are a good option to, but be careful if you have a letter box in your door or glass pains in the door, it can be easy to open the thumbscrew through a letter box.

    AFAIK a thumbturn is a building regualtion now and has been for a few years.


    OP you had better check that with your door supplier assuming this door is in a domestic premises.

    I believe the regulation only applies to new builds and rented accommodation.

    I don't think it applies to a simple DIY replacement. Though of course it is a good idea to think about why it is a requirement for new builds and thus why it is probably a good idea for any DIY job.

    However do be weary of using them with a door with a letter box. Best to also get a good letter box cover if that is the case.

    Can you put up a picture of the door lock as it may not have a euro-cylinder lock if it has no handle
