Getting Singapore Dollars & Indonesian Rupiah

I'll be going to Singapore then Bali later this month.

Would I be better off getting Singapore Dollars and Indonesian Rupiah in Dublin or when I get there?

If there should I get it in the airports or in the city/town and is better to exchange using cash (€) at a currency exchange or using card (Revolut) at an ATM?

As an additional question would I be better of getting Indonesian Rupiah in Singapore rather than Dublin/Bali?

    Thanks.

Always better to get local currency locally.

    ATM on arrival.

Watch the ones in the airoprt, particularly the ones run by the currency conversion companies. Got caught once in Bristol airport with a savage bad exchange rate when I took money out of one of those machines. Best to use a machine at an actual bank.

Best value should be paying by revolut card.

This thread shows MoneyCorp and their very poor exchange rate offered by their airport machines.

plus I got a exchange rate of about €1.14 from revolut when I topped up my euros, moneycorp exchange rate was €0.87

That is what you get when you accepted their bad rate. DCC can be avoided on all machines. Just let your bank do the conversion.

This machine would not let you. If you selected letting the bank doing the conversion it just returned the card and would not give you any money. It was not a normal ATM run by a bank it was run by the money transfer company in the airport.

That's a new one on me. If that happened to me I would go to the next ATM and so on.

All the ATMs in the airport were run by moneycorp. There was no regular ATM run by a bank.

In Asia, I've found that bringing Euros and exchanging cash gets the best rate. Most airports have multiple kiosks competing against each other. Downtown kiosks will give a slightly better rate.

Another advantage is that exchanging €50 or €100 will usually give you a mix of notes. ATMs often give out large denomination notes that are hard to break because the kinds of places that don't take cards won't have enough change.

In indonesia at moment. Using Revolut card on ATMs/Grab taxi/food app has been great. got between 15.5k and 15.8k matching XE rate for cash withdrawals.
