Thoughts on Skoda Rapid

Thinking of buying a 2016 Skoda Rapid. Have heard of issues with the paint on Skodas. Rusting, etc. Is that a known problem?

Anything else to look out for?

Buy something else imo. They are based on the VW Polo saloon platform that is sold in developing countries so built to a budget borrowing heavily from the old VW parts bin. Same car as the Seat Toledo too.

The small petrol turbo is a sweet little machine , a lady friend of mine replaced a classic Alfa Romeo 33 with a Rapid 1.2 with the Tsi engine and loves it, she couldn’t stand all the diesel alternatives.

The spaceback is a lot lore pleasant than the fastback version. To their credit all engines are turbocharged and they’re usually well enough equipped.
It would want to be cheap but I’d have one over a Fabia for example.

Seems to be more negative than positive comments. The car seems fine. The size is ok, it's not the base spec, cheaper tax than my current car, good price.

But yet a mechanic has warned me off them, that's why I'm asking here. I thought Skodas were good cars?

Any other recommendations? Budget of around €10-12k. Must be petrol. Hoping for something fairly recently as we'll probably drive it for 8 years, like our current car. Preferably in Dublin. Looking for something with a decent size interior and boot. The Rapid is 550L.

He warned you off because he'll never see the car. Nothing wrong with them I've had skodas since 2007. Great cars altogether. The paint issue is all bollix, I've never had nor heard of this before.

Did the mechanic also warn you off the polo , Ibiza or fabia , or whatever vag platform it’s based on.
I don’t know about the the engine but I can’t imagine much goes wrong with any of that vag range.

They are built cheaply for someone that wants a car like that.
If you like the car then I wouldn’t be worried about any issues with them.

Actually went out and put a deposit on a 2015 i30 today. Very nice drive and a decent spec.

Have Scoda Rapid since 131D....great car, no problems or rust. Driving Scoda's since 2003, always buy new. Never have a problem
