So I am an old fart of 30+ with plenty of driving experience from Canada.
Been off the road for a few years and decided to get a car and try some insurance quotes first.
As my Canadian license lapsed and I had no plans to go back anytime soonish I have passed the full license recently.

Just rang Axa and was refused a quote, was told they do not quote anyone over 30 with no previous experience in Ireland...

Is that a bad joke or is that common?

    Try GMHD.ie

You wont get a quick quote (small number of questions) but if you continue with all your details (more detailed questions) you should get a quote then.
