Good lord her father was Paul Hill. Yeah I would say THAT family is cursed. You get sent down for something you didn't do. Your daughter died at 22. Yeah summit is up.

    It's confirmation bias.

If you want to selectively focus on a small percentage of a large dynasty, then yes.

Where is the "no" option in your poll? Discredited.

Someone told me years ago that he heard that Joe Kenbedy Sr (JFK's father and US Ambassador to the UK) had a curse placed on his family by some shrivelled old gypsy woman back in the 1920s...

...they certainly have been dogged by a lot of tragic, premature family member deaths.

Yes. I heard that one of them was on the back of a lorry coming from the All Ireland in 1951 which didnt stop for a funeral

They are a very tragic family

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,673 ✭✭✭AudreyHepburn

I think it’s just that they’re such a big family that anything that can go wrong in life is likely to happen to them. It’s very tragic for them of course.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,757 ✭✭✭Phil.x

Bad luck seems to follow them.

Considering it's sudden or unnatural deaths across a large family over three generations, I don't think they have been more unfortunate or tragic than most comparable family units.

I think it was JFKs sister who was considered a little hyper and uncouth by her family on the social scene in MA and the dad got her labotomised. Im pretty sure an irish nun looked after her till she died. Horrible story.

    The lobotomy was a disaster

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,627 ✭✭✭Woke Hogan

JFK had something of a lobotomy performed on him as well, in his final moments.

What do Kennedys' fear most? Old age. Dying of natural causes.

Why was JFK Jr flying that night? Teddy Kennedy offered him a lift.

What do most pilots agree about JFK Jr? He would have nailed that landing on the third try.

How many Kennedys does it take to change a lightbulb. Know one knows. Kennedys don't last as long as ligh bulbs and are not as bright.

Why aren't there more JFK Jr jokes out there? They just haven't surfaced yet.

    Im here all week

Too soon after a tragic death for levity?

What does JFK Jr. miss most about Martha's Vineyard?

    The runway

True, but I doubt the Kennedys are sitting around in their grief saying "Kathleen, Patrick, let's see what the good folks on AH are saying tonight"

The poor girl's mother was 5th of 11 kids.

Not that there's any solace in that but that's a huuuge family.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,817 ✭✭✭✭whisky_galore

They're a big family, no one is pointing out about all those Kennedys that bad stuff didn't happen to. Add to the fact that deaths occurred while they were in high risk political positions, or carrying out activities with an element of risk. And yes some were just plain unfortunate.

Curses exist only in peoples' imaginations and fairytales.

Actually her mother lived in Ireland for while so...Its possible.

Anyhow still. Also her dad is Irish. So are HIS relatives and side of the family.

Bad luck for Mary Jo Kopechne and Marilyn Monroe in particular.

I read Ted Kennedy was at an Irish gathering one night and was asked to sing a song. One smart lad suggested he sing Bridge over troubled water

Joe Snr was a gangster, they rose from the streets to the Office of President.

He was horrible man, look up his life in the 1920s and 30s.

He got all the bad karma back in spades in the end.

I think for all their positivity and fights against injustice and all the good the Kennedy family have done in general and given more than taken, and some people can choose to overlook all that and focus on negativity, with snide snippets to me is very unfair and highly distasteful in light of another horrible tragedy to savagely hit this dynasty.

Not unusual considering he was a Catholic who wanted to get to the top, didn't have old money chum network. He had questionable (to put mildly) business practices and an unapologetic anti Semite but half the country at the time distrusted or hated Jews.

Karma is not a thing that exists either. People like to think that it does.

Joe prob deserved it though as he was a gangster and a bit of a bastard.

JFK was born in 1917, the same era as my grandparents. I have 40 relatives.

My grandparents died of old age, 3 uncles died naturally in their 70's.

1 cousin died as an infant All the rest are alive. If I compare my family to the Kennedy's it does look like a curse but it is more likely that they travelled more and had far more time to die doing unusual things because of their wealth.

    Kennedy deaths

Not cursed but they tend to make bad decisions.

The first brother died while either piloting or following a plane packed with explosives.
Jack decided against putting the bubble top on the car in Dallas despite being warned of the dangers.
Robert was fairly relaxed about his security. I think after his death the secret service were used to protect candidates in presidential elections.
Ted Kennedy chose to drink and drive I believe.
John Jnr was at best an amateur pilot.
This girl chose drugs even though she must have known the dangers.

    Bad decisions all round.

I believe curses are real and the Kennedys appear to be cursed. Why do I think curses are real? For the last 4 years after one particular event my life has been full of bad things happening to me and people close to me. Cannot really explain that with confirmation bias.

Curses don't exist, any more than crocks of gold at the end of rainbows. You yelled at a shop assistant and a curse ensued? I'm speechless.
