    hi all

is it simple enough to waterproof a watch?

i have a 25yr old watch with screw caseback my wife got me which is my beater, ive used this in water since day one (splashes and swimming)
i got a new battery installed a few weeks ago just before hols in spain,
while there it started getting internal condensation from sweat,
the seal must have not enjoyed being opened this time around,
i didn't swim with it this year, is it simple enough to get a new seal done?

    rgds

Depends on a few things F. The brand would be a big part of it. IE can you send it back to them to get them to do a proper service with new seals and whatever else is needed? Other things can be in play too like physical damage to sealing joints like the caseback. But yeah something like a Seiko in good condition should be easy enough to reseal. Less well known brands, or a band like Fossil that changes specs and models very rapidly not so much.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

    thanks wibbs

    yeah i should have mentioned...
its a long discontinued accurist steel quartz chrono /alarm
not a rip off but its inspired by Tag
i was just thinking that the rubber gaskets on a lot of watches
may be standard sizes and its a case that a jeweller/watch repair guy
would have a stock of different sizes

im pretty sure the caseback is more or less perfect
as i mentioned its been watertight for 25yrs up to now
maybe the gasket got twisted or pinched when the caseback
    went back on,

the watch is sentimental but i still want it as a beater
i don't have a big collection and my other watches are more fragile
and besides i really like the look and the history and its one of
the only bracelets i have so i like to wear it in the hot weather

    cheers
