    Hi

Has anyone kayaked down this route.
    http://www.bluewaysireland.org/blueways/shannon
The above site has a breakdown of 4 different sections of it. It seems to go from Drumshanbo to Lanesborough but not sure if all sections are open.

    Are there companies offering rental.
I have rarely kayaked but it seems a lovely route to do on paper.

    Thanks

    Thanks for that.
I looked at the Blueways Ireland website and it lists the Shannon Blueway and that the route isn't fully passable yet all the way. That may have changed.

Only thing against this venture is the need to swap from bike or walk to paddle. If self guided you would want someone driving and picking you up and dropping off. Perhaps ideal for return day/weekend trips.

I wonder what happens on canals with locks if you are paddling your own canoe? Is it easy to access?

Some other blueways are also listed -
    Shannon-Erne (cycle, walk, paddle)
    Lough Derg (paddle only)
    Royal Canal (cycle, walk, paddle)

The Suir Blueway isn't on the site yet. Neither is the Grand Canal.

I would say a canoe would be ideal if on a family trip. Less hassle with changing etc.

    Have you done any sections?

There is some great infrastructure being done at the moment as a lot of these link up with greenways etc.
