Does anyone know at what point of the scale would you start if you were going down a grade? Currently grade 5 looking / thinking about grade 4 job to move home.

    Nothing to do with Taxation!

I suspect that if you voluntarily move down a grade then you'll be offered only the Grade 4 entry point or (if you're lucky!) whatever Grade 4 scale point you were on when you went up to Grade 5.

Why not contact your Union Head Office?

    It's not a usual situation.

You could start on point 1.

It's possible you could start on the closest point on the IV scale as to what you are currently on.

Best thing is to fire off an email to the AO or SEO of the local authority that is running the competition and see if they can come up with an answer. They may have experience of this situation from before.

Also like portsalon said, they may start you off on the point you were on when you were last on Grade IV.
