Standalone broadband switch over issue

    Hi guys,

Weird issue i'm having and wanted to run by here to see if anyone else has had the same issue. I am currently with Eir (out of contract) on a FTTC 7mb line on a rural road in Dublin so this is as fast as its going to get for a while (i'm in the amber area for FTTH so that will not be any time soon).

I've been on this same line for years and about three years ago i called to try get money off and Eir informed me i could drop the phone line and change to broadband only package to save a few euro each month. We never even had a phone plugged into the landline so i jumped at this and have been paying €47.99 a month for the past 2.5 years approx for the same line as far as i can see minus the phone service which i never used.

The issue now is Sky have offered me a much better deal of €35 per month including landline but i cannot change as when Sky check my line they say there is no broadband on it. After many many calls it seems this is something to do with how Eir have set up my line and by removing the landline i'm stuck with them and can't leave without A) re-adding the phoneline and another 12 month contract or B) cancel the service and get a totally new line.

This seems bonkers and just wondered was anyone else in the same position? If i had known dropping the phone line would cause this issue i never would have bothered to save €2 a month.

Any suggestions on what to do next?

Knew without reading that this would be Sky.

Sky's system can't handle the CRNs user for FTTH, they need a landline to put in a port request. Your number will be be 8881-nnnnnnnn instead of like 01-nnnnnnn. Its a simple fix. Everyone else manages. Sky are the kid in the corner eating glue.

Find somebody else unless you want to cancel and order as a new line giving yourself several days to a week of no internet.

Yeah that was my issue having down time. I have TV with sky and the only real reason to change was price 15quid cheaper a month than eir. Thanks for the info though yes my number is 888
