Afternoon, long time lurker here looking for some advice.

So in the back of my mind I’ve been looking for a new watch for a while, brown leather strap, automatic, Non Chronograph, Dark face.

Anyway I’ve come upon a secondhand Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m with an AD, price is £2995, two years old with a new strap from omega and comes with original box.

I’m currently out of the country so can’t go to see the watch, so I guess I’m looking for some guidance. Is this price where it should be? What should the watch come with re papers? General consensus on these watches? I’ve looked at a couple of different websites and price doesn’t seem to be too far off the mark? I suppose in some part I’m looking for the validation I require to convince me to purchase!

    Thanks for the help.

    Hi there,

I have a Aqua Terra 39mm. Its from 2015 or maybe a year earlier. Reference was worn by James bond in the Skyfall movie so is knows as the skyfall aqua terra. I have mine 2 months now and its hardly been off my wrist. I would say they are not blingy watches.. so people won't instantly recognize them like say they would a rolex or even a seamaster diver. I love that about them though. They are fantastically accurate watches and lovely to wear. Close to perfect 'one' watch that you can wear to dressy occasions or the office or whatever you want. I don't put it in harms way.. have a gshock for that :)

    Here's a picture of mine

    2aensm1.jpg

Re the price - i paid about 2600 euro for mine - i bought on ebay in the states and a friend held it for me for a few months until i was visiting.. bit of a risky transaction but everything worked out in the end. Ideally you should get watch box, and international warranty card from Omega with reference numbers and serials. Mine didnt come with the card but if you are buying from an AD you shouldn't have any concerns.

Id suggest trying the watch on before you buy.. i didn't but i knew it was what i wanted so happy out. Also people do suggest its generally better to buy a watch on bracelet and add the strap later as its usually cheaper than doing it the other way around.. Mine came on a bracelet and ive tooled around with a few straps but it wears lovely on the bracelet so ill probably leave it on it.

    Good luck shopping

    Cheers,
    Mick

Appreciate the reply, I had come across yours in a search, lovely watch. I’m assuming €3200 isn’t ridiculously over priced then. Re strap vs bracelet, I already have a tissot and a tag on bracelets so it’s specifically a brown leather strap I want and like some of the nato options available too if I fancied a change. Trying it on isn’t an option for me at the moment, I work overseas and won’t be home until December so I was intending to place a healthy deposit with the AD to hold it until I get home.

Question, what’s the quality/feel of the omega leather straps like? I tried on a tissot squelette one time and was a little disappointed but maybe that’s just me.

Finally, automatic watches, I won’t be wearing it every day and will probably go months without wearing it, what’s the best way to store it?

I can't speak the to quality or feel of omega straps but most say they are probably over priced for what you get... i did pick up an omega aligator one secondhand and should have it by the end of the week so can give you some more feedback then.. have you tried negotiating on price? might be worth a try..

Also yours is a larger and newer watch that mine.. has the master coxial movement instead of coaxial which i believe the main differences are the anti magnetic properties.. the master co ax is better in that regard..

re storage.. mine sat in my friends for a couple of months and it was no issue... there's debate around watch winders.. some say they help, some say they add unnecessary wear to a watch... ive been wearing mine pretty consistently so no issues.. id say it be fine left idle for few months but others might chime in with their views...

What size is your wrist micks_address? That watch looks quite big for a 39mm - looks great but I'm wondering how big the 41.5mm version wears?

Think it is a great choice OP, been strongly considering it myself

That’s a fine watch. I am a big fan of the ATs with green or orange accents.

Price is not ridiculous as it’s from a dealer but does it have full set of papers? Or just box?

Pricey enough if it’s just a watch with no papers or bracelet.

Full set below for same price from dealer in UK. Prob room for negotiation on price.

Suggest trying a 41 mm AT on before you buy. These wear big due to the small bezel.

Same, the orange accents really make it for me.

Haven’t contacted dealer yet, was looking for advice on what to ask too.

My tag is a 41mm Aquaracer Calibre S for comparison, will this wear much differently?

Agree - and chunky with it (13.6mm).

For what its worth I'd always go for this watch on bracelet. It actually wears a bit more compact than on the strap (strap sits lower' less integrated than the bracelet) and for me the versatility (which is one of the key strengtht of an aqua terra) is enhanced on bracelet.

Also the bracelet will be a heart breaker to buy separately at a later stage.

I'd second that re the bracelet. I actually got the OEM Omega Aligator strap yesterday. Surprised how light it is. I havent put on the watch yet. I bought it off a guy on watchuseek forum so got it relatively cheap. I can't see myself using it much over the the bracelet. The watch feels great on it.

Still the straps do give some nice dial matching options. I find it a little tricky taking off the bracelet. I have a watch strap tool but its just more awkward i find to get the bracelet off and im terrified of doing any damage to the watch :)

Is there a different tool i should use for the bracelet? Its a spring bar tool im using.. bergeon..

    Cheers,
    Mick

Appreciate the comments re the bracelet, but I’m not looking for one with a bracelet, I’m specifically looking for one with a strap so that’s of no concern. Also anywhere I’ve found the one with the orange they all seem to be with straps as apposed to bracelet, is it a case of that’s how they’re supposed to be? I could be wrong on that.

as far as i know this model was designed to be on a brown strap and it is the perfect colour combo in my opinion, however i have seen them on a bracelet and they were more than likely modified after purchase like this one

Thanks for that, to be honest it doesn’t do much for me on the bracelet, the brown strap combo is perfect in my eyes, and some of the nato straps also work well with it.
