VRT OMSP

Q1: How often is the OMSP on cars revised. Kinda thinking of buying say a 2016/2017. Does the OMSP get reduced on January.

Q2: What is the OMSP. My understanding was for new cars the OMSP is 90% of the RRP. Anyhow, if the OMSP is actually less than what the car is currently retailing for in ROI, can revenue then try charge you VRT on a higher OMSP than whats online. Obviously if its the other way around, I've heard of the appeals process.

Q3: Say for example a 2016 Golf GTD manual. There is 4 different derivatives I can choose, each with different OMSPs and CO2. Can I just select the one with the lowest OMSP and amend the CO2s on that?

You need to select the correct variant with the correct Co2 figure. Don’t go messing with changing Co2 figures as you have the wrong variant and thus the wrong OMSP.

Cartell.ie will give you the actual Co2 figure for the car with the reg.

But what's stopping revenue using the lower OMSP once the description matches. Just charge me the right VRT band on the lower omsp

Because the OMSP is tied to that particular stat code.

So for example, a €390 tax GTD is worth less than a €180 tax GTD, Or the GTD you’re selecting is a Mk6 and not Mk7.

The VRT calculator is a bit of a strange animal, it doesn’t work the way you think.

    Q1. Monthly
Q2. If you dont agree with the OMSP you can appeal it after you pay. Depending on the make and model it can be sent to revenue at your VRT appointment for a manual valuation, if revenue pick up that there are "extras" they will add that to the OMSP
Q3. Pick the model with the co2 that matches what's on your V5, as that will be the one the Nct admin will pick.
