It appears that Boris Johnson is a 7th great-grandson of one James O'Gorman (1681-1736) born in Bunratty Castle. As the man who is reported to have said in response to Leo Varadkar's election as Taoiseach "good gracious, I thought they were all Murphy" would it not be appropriate to address him as Boris O'Gorman to help him focus on the fact Murphy is not the only Irish surname?
I await with bated breath his appearance at next year's Clare county final, and at the afters in Durty Nellies. I'd say no better man to sink a few pints there.

Johnson's paternal grandfather was the (Muslim) Turkish politician Ali Kemal. The family fled to England and changed their name to the more palatable Johnson.

Johnson's mother ist the descendant of Russian-Jewish immigrants to the US.

Other (paternal) ancestors are English, German and French.

Never mind some Irish fella in his heritage.

A true European you would think ...

If he was an American President the Clare crowd would be pissing in their pants at the thought of him visiting. Of course Obama has Irish connections too. Ya

Boris is about to plunge Ireland into an economic depression that will make the housing collapse look like a mild correction. He also looks intent on returning the North to direct rule with Unionist domination and a hard border all combining to result in a return to violent conflict on these islands. And he has appointed a Home secretary who thinks Famine is the best way to keep the paddys in line.

Far from claiming him I'd say every church in Clare will be burning their record books just in case.

He really isn’t. The Irish economy is largely decoupled from England.

Is it not something like 25 to 30% trade on exports/real econmoy to uk?

The housing/building boom at its height was like 18% of the economy.....its pure "soft landing" type talk to think brexit wont bring diaster imo

11% of total exports, which aren’t going to go to zero anyway.

The U.K. does 40% of its trade with the EU.
