2016 Octavia rear light cluster swap

    Hi folks,

need to replace the rear light cluster on my 161 Octavia Combi after wife hit the neighbour's car. Ordered one from the local motor factors and they got the wrong one in for me. It seems mine is a "Hella LED" cluster and only main dealers can get one (this is what he tells me).

Light on funds atm as we are moving house and I've already paid for the non-hella/LED version so wondering can I get away with it until I can afford the dealer repair?

The Hella LED has a 3 pin connector for the brake light. The non-Hella replacement unit does not, instead it has a P21W slot - can I wire a P21W socket and bulb into this 3 pin connector? This would mean one brake light is LED and the other is not, so they may not light up exactly the same.

Is this setup legal? Right now I've no brake-light on one side + rear window brake light, although all the other lights (indicator, fogs etc...) work, so I would prefer to have . If not I can stump up for the proper part, but would be great if I can make use of the part I've bought.

    Thanks!

If they got the wrong one in is it not their issue to rectify?

I had to change a light cluster on a Golf last year and ordered a spurious one from Micks Garage for pretty cheap.
It's hart to tell the difference between that one and the OEM part to be honest.

There’s LED tail lamps and non LED.

You can get the HELLA LED lights from the likes of superskoda.com

They need to take the part back as your car is coded for led brake lights and not regular bulbs.

REALLY wish I'd asked on here before I bought the other part....that site has the part I need for €150. Thanks for posting, I'll just get the right part.

As for the motor factors, wouldn't take the part back as I had put it on the car (having some lights rather than no lights better than nothing). live and learn I guess

Ordered that there. Thanks. Had picked up a p21 socket and bulb but and put it in using a little electrical block connector and the 3 pin connector from the old unit so I have working brake lights for now. Looks sh1te though so the LED definitely needs to go in. Even with buying the two parts I'll probably break even on the dealer cost.... And I've learned something. Thanks again

It depends on whether it's their mistake in the first place.
If they ordered the wrong part, it's not entirely your mistake if you fitted it.

But as you said, you learned something. Good sense of satisfaction when you do these things yourself.
