Hi We have a 4 bedroom bungalow built in 80s . We have insulation in attic and walls. Our oil boiler is old we have no thermostat on the rads .We have 3 double rads and 6 single. We have an open fire in a sitting room with a back boiler. We use this room for about 6 months of the year.We have an open plan kitchen dining and living area it is 33ft x 13 with two double 4 ft rads in. We use this as our living space from May to September/ October.
We had looked at a stove but as the room is small 17x11 we are thinking of closing the chimney and putting an electric insert style where we can have oil heating on and fireplace with the flame or 2kw heating . What kind oil boiler should I be think of ? Will I need to replace cylinder in hot press. It is the old style copper with lagging jacket. In the summer I need to use immersion for hot water.
We have 2 electric showers in on suites. In our main bathroom we have a tank fed shower but this does not have a pump. Can a pump be added to this shower or does the shower need to be changed.
I know we can apply for a grant for upgrade of boiler. The house is about 1000sq ft. What other up grades should I be looking at. I want to get prices from 3 plumbers but want to be asking the right questions.
What is involved in closing up a chimney. We have been using coal and find it quite dirty and want to clean up the fireplace area. Thanks in advance for replies
