I'm building a trailer to make into a teardrop camper. has anyone gone down the route of getting a trailer built and IVA tested. The trailer is pretty much built now just the lights to fit but I cant seem to find a test centre in Kerry that does the inspection. I dont want to have to drive halfway across the country to get the thing inspected so if anyone has any info on how to go about it??

I’d be claiming you made it prior to 2012 if I was you, exempt from inspection in that case.

I've been looking into this myself as something to chip away at over a few weekends.

My intention was to build a teardrop cabin atop an existing trailer. In this case I would be assuming that as long as the trailer itself meets required regulations/approvals/certifications, the load (i.e. the cabin) is fine as long as it falls below the 3.5 tonne limit. "Load security is covered specifically by Road Traffic legislation, which requires that loads carried by vehicles must be properly
secured at all times" - so once the load is secure, it's fine.

In short, if the trailer is legit, the load (once secure) is irrelevant. Would this be right?

Hi, I too have been thinking about a self build, I'm a joiner so ' should ' be fairly straight forward.
Did you end up building one since?

Don't think its possible now as it has to have a certificate of conformity, but as others said if its "built" pre 2012 its all good
