Canine tooth extraction on a labrador

We brought our labrador to the vet last week to have his vaccines updated. The vet confirmed that the dog (8 year old) is very healthy and his teeth are very clean but she also noticed that one of his upper canines is broken and the nerve is exposed. She mentioned that he must be in agony even if he looks like his usual happy self. I know that dogs often don't show any signs that they are in pain.
The vet said that the tooth had to be removed and we made an appointment for the extraction tomorrow Monday at 8.30 am.
I have been reading on the internet tonight and it seems that canine teeth extraction are a big deal because it can alter the structure of the jaw.
The vet told us that, unless we go to Dublin and pay a fortune, tooth extractions are the only option in Ireland: tooth capping or filling don't exist.
Can someone confirm that? Has someone had their dog's upper canine removed? Was it trouble free?
I am not asking for veterinary advice here, just about the options that are available in Ireland and (hopefully) reassurance for someone whose dog underwent a similar procedure.
I am now sorry I left it that late before googling that matter :(

My guy had his 4th upper pre molar - the biggest one at the back removed a few months ago and he was fine after - I was expecting him to be in a bundle after it but he was absolutely fine and they reckoned because he was in so much pain he was just relived to have the tooth gone... as for canines ... he had a tumour coming up to 5 years ago now and had a piece of his lower jaw removed - like 1/4 removed... yes his tongue hangs out but again he’s fine.
So for just one canine I wouldn’t be that worried!
