Hi all, I picked up a 2008 520d during the week and it has parrot bluetooth installed but right next to the parrot screen is this weird custom button and I'm totally lost as to what its used for.

Anyone have any ideas? I've tried pushing it but dont notice anything happening.

What ever it does they didn't put too much effort into making it seemless. Which would sort of make me think its more a nessacary install?

Interesting, if it is, theres no indicator to say its on. I'll try and see if theres any difference next time i'm driving.. Its a manual so would only affect steering and throttle response according to your links..

Assuming it's even connected, what color wires on the loom does it go to?

No still no clue. I'm still getting used to driving the car but im not sure I notice any difference in handling after pressing it. Sometimes i think i feel a difference but could be my imagination.
Maybe i'll try and trace where it goes sometime, but not fancying the thoughts of pulling the dash apart..

If i ever do find out i'll be sure to update the thread. :D

Do you have a reversing camera or anything else added on to the dash display?

I found the same switch as part of a video transcoder kit for a Camry on a Russian site.

Nice find:D:D, no nothing custom with the Idrive ( that i'm aware of), its just the standard one. Maybe there was a reversing cam before, that was removed? Its a pretty stock car apart from the parrot and a stupid M badge on the back that the previous owner stuck on slightly crooked:mad::D.

If it was the Sport mode button, you would definitely feel the difference. The steering becomes more responsive and feels heavier and the throttle response is significantly different. Also you would see a "sport" light come up on the dash.

Ya but its a manual so i don't think it has the sport mode dash indicator. I think sport mode adjusts the gear change and the steering so on mine would only affect the steering. I could have sworn a few times that the steering felt heavier around corners after a little spirited driving, but this was without pushing the button. But if its really a noticeable difference in the steering then I wouldn't be doubting myself so its probably not sports mode:confused::D
Someday, i'll probably try and take it apart to see where it goes but not feeling the urge to yet.
