As per the thread title - do you play 18 once a week or more?

Do you practice much on top of this? Or is it all playing?

Feel free to add your handicap too.

On average I'd play 2 x 18 holes weekly. I'd also play numerous 9 holes too. I've been known to play 5 x 18 holes in a week and get some practice in too.

    39 times so far this year, 54 last year, 57 in 2017, 56 in 2016, 72 in 2015.
I don't do cold weather so it all depends on the conditions, I'll play twice a day whenever anyone else is up for it.
    I never practice

    Twice a week usually.

I might get 9 in or go to a range when I'm working on something.

Last year was once a week and nearly no practice.

    3

I would say there's only one day a week where I don't hit a golf ball, be it a full game or putting or general practice.

Don't know about any of you lot but I love practicing. If I'm going to kids football or Hurling etc. I normally bring a wedge and a few balls and play little games trying to chip into a hat or something.

About once every 2 - 3 weeks on average. 6 handicap and rising.

    Competition only.

When the youngest gets out of nappies I'll get back into it again

I can never understand this, sorry. I have kids and they were never so difficult or time consuming that I couldn't nip off for a couple of hours per week for a few holes.

In fact, the wife made sure to get me out for golf. I also made sure she has her time to herself too away from the kids.

Usually try to play 2 rounds from Thursday to Sunday - but would try to get to the range most days on my lunch break (the joys of having a driving range beside my work) - typically hit 60 balls 40 wedges / short irons and 20 drives to keep me ticking over!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,890 ✭✭✭DuckSlice

Once a week, maybe twice if the weather allows it. I don't like playing in the rain or drizzle.

also try to get to the range twice a week - I would hit 100 balls at each session. If the range had a good chipping or putting green I would do more practice. I never practice putting which is silly because its 40% of the game on average.

18 holes once a week now that I have a young 'un, a far cry from my past where I would easily hit 2,000 balls a week.

/excuse me while I go cry!

2000!!!!! that's mental. you must have been going to the range 7/8 times a week?

My practice bag has about 200 balls and I would often hit more than one bag in the evening (or maybe morning before work!) so it adds up quickly enough!

On a positive note, my gloves last a lot longer now!

about 80 competitive rounds per year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 348 ✭✭frink

Normally once a week at best for competitions. Try to get some practice in once a week if I can.

Played a lot more interclub golf this year which has restricted the amount of club comps I have been able to play.

Moving club after this year to somewhere more local so hopefully i'll get out alot more from then.

In winter, most weekends just 12 holes
In summer, at least 1 competitive round every weekend, rising up to 4 per week with matches, society and inter-clubs in May/June. By July I'm out of everything so back to 1 or 2 rounds per wek plus some casual practice.

Play once a week in general and maybe twice for bank holiday weekends.

I used to hit the range 3-4 times a week but almost no never anymore as I think it does me more harm than good most of the time.

Playing off a new 16 handicap currently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 251 ✭✭Fatswaldo

HC 14. Full 18 once a month or thereabouts. 18 holes on a local Par 3 most sundays. Wish, wish, wish it could be more.

Out of interest, how do you think going to a range can do more harm than good?

Normally a round each week reducing to only 12hole in winter (when no frost!)
Showing 40 rounds in last 12 months.
    Major jealous of some here.

Differs from winter to late summer, in winter I'd play every Saturday and every 2nd Sunday, then when we get the hour back on clock I'd go up on a Friday evening and practice shortgame..when Interclub kicks in I'd probably get in another evening and this continues till we are out of everything and most majors are done and this is when I lose interest and cut back, Non Competitive golf bores me in a way that I like something to look forward to,to strive for and this year my game has gone backwards, 7.2 July 18, 8.8 now and I swear that getting custom fit for a driver has been the problem, rant over

Not all that pushed. I love the time at home at the weekends with the kids. Most of the time I'd rather spend 4 hours with the kids doing nature walks or going to playgrounds or over to their cousins houses and getting as much time with them as I can.

A couple of mates of mine work away from home 4-5 days a week. They go driving range friday night, golf every single Saturday and then go the pub Saturday night. Sunday then is the only day they see their kids for an extended period of time and I can't understand why they do it but people are different

They're only little for a little while, one day they'll be big and you'd wish they were little again. I don't want to miss a minute of it

2x18 holes in summer, 1x18 in winter.
Don't do any practice at all, if I did have that spare time, I'd play a few holes rather than practice. 11hcp

Horses for courses, when our kids came along I gave up golf for 6 years. I'll always be able to play golf, it will always be there and is going nowhere but those formative years of nappies, screaming, laughing, crawling, walking and time together will never repeat and for me it was the right decision.

9 holes twice a week and 18 about once a month.
Only practice is putting green while waiting for the tee.
Occasional trip to driving range when things go really bad - maybe twice a year.
    Handicap 19.

This time last year I had between 60 and 70 rounds played. This year about 20. This year is all about family time and I would be lying if I said I didn't miss it. Youngest is starting school in Sept so once that happens I hope to get out at least 3 mornings as I work evenings. Then once at the weekend.....i hope.
