In the market for a new laptop (current hp envy 13 hinges almost gone)
    Anyway budget €2000 ish
use some video and photo editing and need to sort out a large photo collection 10,000 +

lighter might be better as I have arthritis in my hands

warranty is important so I would like to know peoples experience with dells and lenovo on site warranty

the laptops im thinking of are xps 13 i7 with 16 GB ram nice and light

dell xps 15 i7 8GB ram (can upgrade) nice and powerful and a bit heavier

lenovo X1 carbon 7th gen 16GB ram i7 really light and powerful

lenovo T490 i7 16 GB ram one soldered so upgradeable

better options with the dell screen options i think unless you choose top options

anyway sorry for long post and would appreciate any options .

I asked this same question on a different forum and I was advised to go for the Lenovo. My budget however only stretches to the 6th Gen model. I was also advised to go for the i5 rather than the i7 and this has been backed up by reviews I have read. Apparently the i7 has throttling issues due it being so thin and heating up.

there is less than 10% difference in performance between i5 and i7 in the intel u chips range. at this is only apparent at the top end you'd never really notice the difference as most of the time the laptop won't be running at the top end

it's generally not worth the extra cost but then a lot of the times options like 16gb ram etc are only on the i7 option

for video editing 16gb is preferable. a discrete GPU would help speed up render times also.

although if upgradable you could buy the 16gb yourself and sell the 8gb stick (assuming only 1 ram slot)

the thinkpad x1 extreme is another option comparable to the xps 15 but it's a little lighter at 1.7kg

not sure if the new version is available over in Europe yet tho
