How young is too young?

My little man just turned three. He is a big 3 though the size of a four year old.
He has started showing an interest in golf, watches with me and wants to play with my clubs etc.
He is able to take instruction while his attention is held and keeps asking to play golf. Now,while obviously 3 is too young for 18 holes, what is available for such a young person to get into golf?

I was taught by my dad at like 10 and had lessons but I would have loved to have been playing at a much younger age. Also I won't teach him as a) I'm pretty average and B) I don't want to create any issues with him and me or him and golf. My brother learned from my dad and after a few months came back one day and said I'm never playing golf again.... I don't want that!

Just give him some suitable clubs and let him away, I'd forget about lessons until he is a bit older

At 3, the plastic clubs and balls are probably fine. If you want something real buy a single iron from McGuirks or halpennys who stock kids clubs. I’d recommend the foam practice balls they sell.

Cut-down clubs would be too heavy and stiff.

My lads did group lessons when they were 6/7 but got a bit frustrated with being in a range and at that age they were too young to bring on a course, Don’t be in any rush, Shane Lowry didn’t start until he was 13.

I thought that about cut down clubs. I'm not in any major rush. Just, he keeps asking. Typically I'd say, oh not today (jump zone where he is too young etc) but with golf, he isn't not allowed to play

Nah, you can get single clubs that are designed for kids of all ages..you don't need a big garden he won't be hitting it far..also don't give him real balls yet.

U.S. Kids is the brand but actually 3 might be too young for them, so just go with plastic as above for now.

Is there nowhere on this island that has a half day type golf camp for young kids?
Like the rugby tots training that's available for rugby

My club does but not for that young, 8+ I think
You could get him a tiny putter and head to the nearest crazy golf?
Might be more fun for him...?

He's 3!! Let him do what he wants. If he wants to do something with you, enjoy that.

You're not going to retire off him. :pac:

Cool thanks for your input. Perhaps if you read the thread you would see that he is constantly asking me to play golf.
As a father if he wants to play a sport I want to make sure he can play it in a safe Manor (clubs that fit aren't too heavy etc).
So leeting him do what he want.... Tell me how exactly I do that with clubs that fit a 6 ft man. Im very interested in your helpful and educated opinion
The fact I have asked here shows I am unsure on how to proceed with his requests.
Retire off him? He is 3.cop on.
Good grief boards.ie is getting worse for idiots recently.

    You already got advice.

    Maybe read the thread yourself.

SportsDirect do a range of kids golf clubs. There's one in particular called Slazenger Ikon and they come in red, blue and yellow which are three different sizes of junior clubs. The yellow ones are the smallest ones and I'd say would be near perfect for him. I got my fella (9 weeks old!) a putter that I have put away for him until he is older. But judging by it's size I'd say it would be fine for a 3/4 year old. I almost bought him a full set but had to stop myself when I realised I don't know if he is left or right handed yet.

So if it were me, I'd get him a putter and an iron from sportsdirect and bring him to a pitch and putt course in the evening time (or whenever the course is quiet) and let him swing the iron from about 20 yards away and let him take a couple of putts on the green. 9 holes of that would be ideal starting off I'd imagine.
