He has full license, one year as named driver, budget 3500 -5000 currently looking online at Clio's, Polo's & Ibiza's 08 - 11, any thoughts on the above models or any others he should consider, doesn't seem too concerned about looks, reliability would be main factor, obviously will be looking for best service history , current nct, condition etc
    Thanks

    Not a Polo/Ibiza, they’re not especially reliable.

    Fiesta worth a look.

A diesel Clio should be got handy enough and would run on the smell of diesel.

If you're down Munster/Cork way, have a Corolla 04, PWO. Son had it for 5 years, only reason he changed as he got a siblings car. PM me if you're interested, genuine car and offer.

That’s actually extremely cheap for electric

Still I think with insurance etc it’s over budget

A cheap Yaris might be the job

I'd an older Clio as my first car but drove that model within budget, it's a great car.

Back in the day when I was getting first car the Micra was the choice, my wife had two

Why are they not recommended anymore? They where a great little car and you could buy loads of extras

Competition improved, Micra got less reliable (realistically, that was the main reason they ever sold, it wasn’t for the looks)

I remember myGF at the time, now wife and her sister bought 2 of them from a garage.

My wife just was standard Nissan, no power steering but great little car

My sister in law had been owned by boy race, alloys, changed gear stick, lights inside etc....was very funny....

Both cars they had for a few years, done them perfect, sold on and more or less got the same money for them

My brother had one from 2000. They seemed to rust bad with age. And lost a lot of market with the one they released around 2004(?). As the styling was too wildly different. After that, it's been SUVs and Crossover hell.

At 15 years old could be difficult to insure

The Mazda2 shares a lot mechanically with the Fiesta. Both would be good cars with the Fiesta being more common.

Skoda Fabia and Fiat Punto are two more cas in that class he could look at or you could also look at the Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1, Peugeot 108 trio. Basic but good fun little cars.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

The MK3 Clio is a great car. I've a 2010 Clio TCe turbo petrol. 1.2 running costs, tax and insurance, with 1.6 performance. Can't beat that.

Skoda citigo , vw up , seat Mii .. cheap, can look sporty, very easy insure..

All are the same car more or less

I would recommend a Fiesta personally. Cheap to run, fix and insure.

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/ford-fiesta-1-25-2010-nct-03-20-tax-03-20/22534001

Theres a 2010, good KMs, taxed and NCT'd til March.

Can't go wrong with that or a Yaris.

    EDIT: https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/toyota-yaris-2010-nct-7-21/22550476

Heres a nice Yaris. 2010, decent mileage on it. NCT'd for another 2 years and comes with a full service history and a 12 month warranty. Looks perfect to me.

Any opinions on the Dacia Sandero, a 131 & 141 coming in under budget?

Ended up picking up a 08 Seat Ibiza, full service history from 08, nct until 10/20 for €2200, had a full service today with a good look around, no issues, needs a couple of tyres shortly, other than that, all good

Really? Didn't realise that, any thoughts on Mazda 2?

I'm 18 and my first car is a 2012 Mazda 2, its a great little car! Bought is with 115,000kms for €5,000. Its a brilliant little car, visibility is brilliant and very easy to manoeuvre. The clutch is a bit hard to grasp at first though, it has a very high bite point so it will be bunny hopped for the first while when you're getting used to it! Other than that its brilliant, power windows and mirrors, Aux. Its very sporty to drive, handles like a little go-kart, its basically the same as a Ford Fiesta just a different body. All in all a great choice
