Hi, my tax is out at the end of this moment but I'm still waiting for my tax disc to come. It is paid for, and I was told I won't have the disc until next Friday at least (2nd of august). Will I be able to drive then while waiting for my tax disc to come?

By law you have to have it displayed or else it is a €60 fine (provided it is taxed). As far I know though if it approved on the system it'll show up as taxed when checked by a Garda. Then it is luck of the draw if they let you go or decide to fine you. Personally though, I've never heard of anyone actually being given the fine if waiting on the disc for 1/2 days.

Technically non-display of a valid disc is a separate offence to not having tax at all but keep the payment receipt with you in the car and you *should* be fine. You'd have to run into a Garda having a particularly bad day to be done, but stranger things have happened. Up to you whether to risk it. I know I would.

They are a lot quicker than that. I reckon you'll have it Wednesday at latest.

And if your current disc is valid to 31st July, you have no issues to be concerned with

What month does it say on your current tax disc?
If it is 06/19 then you have the whole of July to replace it so you are fine till next Thursday.
If it’s 07/19 then your fine till Sept 1st

Just have proof it's been paid and you'll be fine.

A lot of Gardaí don't care and will let you drive without tax anyway.

Will you pay the ops fine in the event he takes your advice and it's wrong?

    the old "months grace" again.
There is no grace period. If his disc expired on the last day of June, he could be fined on the 1st of July.

You can probably explain to a Gard however if the car is parked with no disc, you could have a problem.

Is it not the other way around? Driving it would be cause for a fine.
Cars parked around my way rarely get ticketed for no tax, even with Garda doing regular foot patrols.

    Of course I will.

driving it with no tax and not having a disc displayed (even if you have one) are two separate offences.

Whatever, imo Gards should not be involved with tax collection, there are more important things that need sorting.

You'll be fine, just don't park in areas where parking is enforced by parking wardens.

Print a copy of the receipt. Keep it in the car.

If its on a public road it can be ticketed.

Most Garda won't be ticketing cars on foot patrols but if they have to meet the quota these cars would be fair game.

Yes, you're fine to drive it.

If you do get a fixed charge notice you can apply to get it cancelled.

........In relation to an FCN for non-display of motor tax or insurance disc, motor tax had been taken out or applied for, or in the case of the non display of an insurance disc motor insurance was in place, at the time of the alleged offence.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.
