Hi all,

Hoping to get some clarification around employee entitlement during unpaid maternity leave.

My understanding is that if an employee is on additional (unpaid) maternity leave, all of her rights are preserved except the right to remuneration.

What I'm not clear on is “remuneration”. Is this only the Salary or does it also include other benefits an employee might receive as part of a “remuneration package” specifically, exam reimbursement?

Would the employee be entitled to claim for reimbursement for exams taken during unpaid maternity leave?

Also, would annual leave days be accrued during unpaid mat leave or not?

Appreciate any insight you can offer.
