Hi folks, I'm buying a second hand car and it only has one key. It's a mk5 GTI golf. Does anyone know how much a new key would cost?

    DIY >> main forum.
Start by asking a dealer to get a understanding of price.
Check with the likes of autokey.ie, but also local locksmiths that may be either able to do it or direct you to someone local who can.

I'd say circa €150-€200 from main dealer.

Should also check into your car insurance, many policies cover lost or stolen keys.
    Thats assuming its lost.

Under no circumstances do this. I did it before and couldn't change insurer for 5 years as they all ask have you made a claim on your policy which the key was and you have to answer yes then they refuse to quote.
