Cancelling contract before getting started

    Hi there!

I have a small issue here that I would like some help, if possible!

I'm is about to sign a new work contract with a 6 months probation period. The contract doesn't state notices, so I'm pretty sure that I don't need to give any notice up to 13 weeks of employment. I would only be starting the new role next month.

Problem is that I may be getting a new offer today or tomorrow for a role that is both more tempting and also better paid and includes much better benefits. In this case, would signing the first contract and then breaking it before getting started cause any legal issues? Logically it shouldnt, and i'm trying to delay as much as possible in order to not get to that point, but the employers are being pushy.

    Thank you !

    Cheers

    No. Just do it.

If the employer changed their mind, they'd cut you lose without a second thought.

If the contract doesn't state notice periods, then you're correct, you give the statutory.

I agree with Mrs OBumble you should do what's right for you at this stage.
