Laptop Dilemma Advice

    Need some advise please :)
Got this laptop as gift from some friends in the states for doing some work for them so cant be to fussy
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-FX705GM-i7-8750H-Processor-Keyboard/dp/B07MCJS37G
It was ordered from Amazon UK but dispatched from USA and arrived with wrong power supply easy sorted the UK cable does not fit the power brick.
What is really tempting me to return is the descripton was also wrong it says it had Media Card Reader: 3-in-1 Card Reader (SD/SDHC/SDXC) which it does not I also researched it abit and seems seller totally misled buyers.

I'm happy with it except for not being able use a mirco card which I use alot, would it be annoying to need use a separate card reader I've always thought of them as standard ?
My other only requirement is at least 17" screen which narrows the field alot at this price range
I also liked the case as strong reason I'm replacing my current ideapad 700-17ISK is the case started to crack/break since I got it back from a repair (by Lenovo) so prefer a stronger 1 even though I'm not rough in general with stuff I own
Any recommendations of a laptop of similar spec's but also has a card reader I need to decide soon if to return this or keep

most 17 inch screen laptops these days are gaming laptops (like the asus)

many gaming laptops don't bother with the card reader

it's a decently powered gaming laptop that you got for free!

just get a usb card reader and make sure that it's usb 3.0 for faster transfer speeds

like this - will take a while from hong kong but cheap. otherwise buy on amazon etc for more if really needed quicker.

I guess you'll need to make sure you'll actually be able to return it, given that you aren't the buyer. And it could get awkward trying to get others to return it for you if it was a gift.

It is a good machine, plenty of power and storage. It'll do almost anything with ease. In terms of micro sd card slots, I would say that the majority of systems do not have dedicated slots. They may have SD slots, but even these seem to be disappearing to a certain extent.

If it were me, I would just get a few dongles and use them. I moved to a Macbook Pro which is also missing the SD card slot and get on just fine. Despite thinking it would be a big issue. I reckon you'll at least need an adapter to convert your micro sd into an sd card if you do change machine. So it would make more sense to me to just get a USB card reader instead.

Thanks just really wanted a opinion of not having a card slot never even entered my head to use the dongle type which will suit fine :D

I was annoyed over them sending the wrong a UK cable which didn't fit the brick, so I cant even setup yet, I was about to power it up and do a clean install from a mirco SD card and realized no card slot either, a card reader whilst I did have 1 is not really ideally to have plugged in for type of use I need (I need backup & change test ver's of software I help a dev test so plenty cards lol)

The return should be easy process even as gift Amazon would just send return label to me when buyer requests it they also told me buy any I want and they send money through PP if didn't want get on Amazon.
This also it would help sort future issues with warranties as not quite sure now how to handle.
Person made the purchase from Canada from a 3rd party seller on Amazon.UK so my rights shud something go wrong will be interesting say the least but if I was return it and rebuy its straight forward ? I'm thinking I will keep it now any advise on my consumer rights which wont be helped with Brexit but think her card shud cover us

It was a great gift and an upgrade from what I was told I was getting as I wouldnt accept the offer they basically told me choose a laptop or they just send 1 anyway :D sorry if that part came across wrong I'm very grateful just spending that amount of money, it needs be suitable which is what they wanted most for me

I'd ask the seller to send you the correct cable to fit the brick.

they should be able to do that.

if not you can just use a plug converter of course. all power bricks are global these days to accept different voltages

this type of card reader is more resilient and convenient for frequent usage. also gives you extra usb ports and is still only a few inches long.

if you want to change the laptop this laptop has a better screen, better graphics card (6gb version of the 1060 card instead of 3gb) and has a sd card reader built in. better overall build quality also as it's the ROG Strix line which is higher-end.

same price as the other one but not on amazon (on amazon but price 50% more). on a good reliable site that delivers to Ireland.

    here's a comprehensive review

it's a class above the other Asus really in terms of build. the only downside is loud fan noise when under load but you are going to get that with most gaming laptops.

Decided on returning which seems pretty straight forward buyer requested a return as not as description they also have now updated the listing , have been sent a label for a return to UK address and will be refunded postage when I send the invoice.
I assume tracked with insurance best to be safe will all couriers accept as battery ?
Ordered the new 1 its already on its way :) went with 1 u posted glasso

cool. let us know how you get on. you should notice a higher build quality for one thing.

return should be ok - just pack well and don't even mention the battery issue. laptops get transported all the time.
