Is the term right wing being misused\overused? It seems to be used to describe people who are anti-authoritarian, pro welfare state, national health care etc but are against open borders. I fell out with a friend recently who said that my views had become too right wing, my understanding of somebody being right or far-right is being in favour of little or no restrictions on markets, extreme nationalism and closed or almost closed borders.

What? The "right" are small state, with little spending on public health, welfare. Against legislation that protects people, esp at work and against environmental protection while promoting free markets and yet sometimes not the free movement of capital and obviously not labour except under limited circumstances ie making money for the bosses.

The other right are social conservatives but they are a different cohort quite often so best not conflated.

Is talking about politics and right/left wing crap overdone in AH? Yes. We don't do that here any more, and it's great
