Have you ever been offered a social welfare cheque in return for a vehicle, particularly from a foreigner?

This is a pretty dumb question, since a social welfare cheque should be made out in someone’s name, so it’s fraud if you try to cash it and it’s not yours...

What sort of moron would try to give the actual cheque made out in their own name to a car dealer, when they could just as easily cash it in and offer the money?

Don't think this has ever happened- keep hearing it but never have I heard/ seen any proof- urban myth? I'd be disgusted if there's even a grain of truth there+ do you honestly think any dealer would reply ?

    In keeping with boards negativity

I know a dealer struggling to keep bread on the family table, working 150 hours a week. A foreign social welfare recipient came into his showroom and pointed at a Porsche 911 targa and said "I'll take 2 of them" Mr salesman was delighted and took the foreigners social welfare cheques. And they all lived happily ever after.

*The above story may not be true and only told to demonstrate the ludicrous story of the OP

I worked in a dealership many many years ago and a very well known guy bought a brand new x5 with many many bags of 2 euro coins. He was in a business where he would take a lot of coins in and obviously wanted to buy a nice car out of pre tax income. I was only there a year but apparently it was an annual event for him to do this.
