Hi all, I have a number of Gallagher Fence reels the orange and black ones. On nearly all of them the small button for locking the reel in place has broken meaning you have to wind the wire around a fixed reel. Can you buy replacement buttons desperately and if so where

I'd doubt it, you generally cant replace anything made of plastic and those were the budget Gallagher offering if I remember them correctly. Would it not be worth your while getting a decent geared reel? I only paid about €30 for it and its a lot faster (and sturdier) than the non geared ones. Looks like it should last for years.

Same happened here. Annoyed me too. On mine, the part sticking out broke off. Have you less than 2 years? There is a warranty on it.

Could you not 3d print another button?

There must be printers available to public around the country.
There's one available free for the public in Wexford county council anyway.

I'd imagine it would be expensive getting the part scanned and drawings done. Worthwhile if a few hundred needed.

It'd be a very simple drawing though.

Do you always need a replica part to scan beforehand or can you just put in measurements and let it do it's job?

As I say there's a printer free to use in Wexford county council buildings for the public and students.

A bit of brute force and you can turn the reel and break the locking pin, don't ask me how I know. When tying it off I now wind the wire around the hook a few times, most of them only have one left!

They are made cheap and designed not to last......

Would you expect anything more of a €12 item?

I might be simple but not that simple.

Kathleen Codd Nolan would be wondering what the hell I was doing.

Drill a hole through orange handle and the black reel part. Insert a nail or something to hold reel in place. They're crap reels but that's how I get by in work. The big reels are worth the money!

Just picked up a 3d printer here, I got half a dozen items around the farm to start 3d printing. The cluster wash cups being the 1st, I've broken half a dozen of them and no sign of Gascoigne coming up with a stronger design yet.

I only discovered recently that amazon.co.uk sell a lot of farming stuff including fencers!
You can 'trial' prime membership and get free delivery'

Also for those of you in an RoI vat registered company, you can have anything sent to you excluding UK vat,so 20% off once you set up your amazon account that way
That arrangement will no doubt end after Brexit
