Tv Licence for Dish but no TV?

There is a satellite dish on my house, but I don't have a tv (it belonged to the previous owners and I haven't gotten around to taking it down). Do you need a tv licence for just a dish?

    Second question:
Looking at the legislation I see the following part about Licence Inspectors:
    (3) An officer of an issuing agent may enter at any reasonable time any premises or specified place for the purposes of ascertaining whether there is a television set there and a television licence is for the time being in force in respect of the premises or specified place authorising the keeping of a television set at the premises or specified place.

Does this mean a licence inspector can enter without invitation or permission?

No as the dish itself is not capable of receiving signal.

The second question - not really, unless you let him in ;)

The dish, however, may catch their eye so you are more likely to get a visit.

I did get a visit (nobody home so only one of their postcards left, with "Satellite Dish Observed" circled on it).

I understood it that as the dish can't display anything by itself it doesn't count, but I wanted to be sure. And I definitely wanted to be sure about the second question, as that seems like a power even the guards don't have, without a warrant.

Unless you plan to use it pay someone €50 to take the dish away!

Or take it down and throw it away for free myself? :)

Tell him it's a tv licence inspector detector.

As far as I know they wanted to bring it in a few years ago (a Broadcast Tax that everyone pays) but it didn't go through.
