If someone is friends with the hiring manager and they have recommended you for a job, is it ok to pop the hiring manager a LinkedIn message three weeks later to let them know when your contract ends(as kind of a reminder your interested in the position)

Well since we don't know the person preferences of the particular hiring manager, how do you expect us to answer the question? They might take exception to it, they might ignore it or be happy to here from you...

Also it is worth remembering that just because someone recommend you for a job does not even mean you are in the running. There is a big difference between someone emailing the hiring manager in order to collect the hiring bonus and someone with influence and a good reputation recommending you.

Ask your friend and see what they say, after all they should know what is going on.

In this case its cos they play golf together and they've worked together for the last 15 years, nothing to do with the bonus.
My friend no longer works for the company so I didnt want to be bothering him

Well in that case you either wait and see what happens or you contact your friend.
