    Can anyone clear up what these mean? I have items starting with AW, AY, and AZ coming to me in the next week or so. Went to collect a missed delivery and the guy in the depot stopped me reading him the number at AY— said something about AY being regular post versus parcel post, or possibly the reverse so he already knew where to get it.

    I know I've had AY items delivered by both regular post and parcel post, so what's the difference? And what about AW and AZ? Is it random, weight-based, or something else? I'd appreciate clarification so I know when to expect my deliveries.

    They store the items separately in the depot, so once he knew it was AY he would find it by going to the right area (presuming he had your name/address already).

    If you said CE, CH, LI, LL, EP, RL, SX etc etc then he would know to check a different area.

    The UPU give different prefixes for different classes of mail(and parcels), but AP get to choose how say AB-AZ is broken down.
    CA-CZ Parcel post; the use of CZ requires bilateral agreement. It is not required to use CV for insured parcels but if the service indicator CV is used, then it is recommended that it be used only on insured parcels.

    Just an example. The same holds true across UPU carriers.
