    Hi do I have to give notice to cancel eir ? How do I time this right can I get onto my new provider now to do the switch or do I wait until say 35 days to go ? What's the penalty for getting out early is it just pay off the rest of your Contract ?

    If your contract is about to come out of the initial 12 or 18 month period (whatever you signed up to with Eir) then you are not under any obligation to renew and can change ISP if you so wish without penalty. The usual notice period is 30 days, which can be given on the last month of the contract in writing I may add (you will have a record that can be used if there are any issues later on). You will be however liable to pay for that month.

    You can during that final month sign up to the new ISP and arrange porting of your phone number if you have one. They will normally do this for you. Ensure however you have served the cancellation notice before you do, as you do not want double billing

    @DRice

    What will your new provider be charging you for the change?
